Color and texture are my muse when creating my abstract expressions. Nothing makes me happier than knowing I get to play with collage, cold wax, and oil paint every day. First, I combine the cold wax and oil together in order to develop my pallet. There are endless possibilities! I’m inspired by the colors I mix creating bold exaggerations and personal favorites. It’s my interpretation of mid-century aesthetics working harmoniously with my palette that helps me to create textured, layered, and colorful paintings. Texture plays a big part in this equation: mark-making tells a distinctive story. When I put it all together I feel joy and a sense of wonder. I have taken ordinary objects and ideas and turned them into works of art.
My background as a licensing agent to textile designers helped me develop an eye for color and composition. After years of helping creatives by marketing and selling their designs to the home furnishings industry, I decided to retire and pursue my own interests in art-making. Initially, I studied the encaustic medium and loved how translucent and layered the medium was. I spent 7 years painting and fusing exclusively. It wasn’t until taking a course in cold wax in 2020 that I retired the encaustic and started working with cold wax and oil paint. I was hooked immediately with the way the cold wax performed and felt. I haven’t stopped creating since.
